Abstract: Abstract: Objective To discuss the treatment effect of using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) to fill the crack of incomplete vertical root fracture in periodontal flap surgery. Methods 6 teeth with incomplete vertical root fracture were made to undergo a periodontal flap surgery so as to expose the pattern of the root fracture. After the inflammatory tissues were removed, the root fracture was abraded, and the fracture line was filled with MTA.Periodic review was done during the following 3rd,6th and 12th month. Results One tooth was extracted because of its complete root fracture in the surgery; the other 5 teeth underwent the surgery as planned. In the 3rd,6th and 12th months followup, all the 5 cases showed clinical and radiographic success. Conclusions The present surgical approach for preserving teeth with incomplete vertical root fracture demonstrated satisfactory results regarding the clinical outcome.
