Abstract: Abstract: Root resorption is a physiological or pathological phenomenon of dentin and cementum defects. It is common in oral diseases. Root resorption often causes reduction of the tooth crown-root ratio and decreases tooth stability, which leads to the looseness or even falling off of teeth, thus seriously affecting the oral health and appearance. So far, there hasn’t been any effective way to prevent or cure root resorption. In recent years, it has been found that osteoprotegerin (OPG) plays an important role in root resorption. This article reviewed the structure, expression and function of OPG, OPG/RANKL/RANK system and the protective effects of OPG on related tissues around root.
