Abstract: Abstract: Periodontitis often result in massive bone destruction and show increased incidences especially in elderly population. As one of the highly-expressed inflammatory mediators, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), together with a certain group of microRNAs (miRNAs), have recently been shown to play important roles in regulating osteogenic differentiation in inflammatory microenvironment. This review summarized progresses in the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulatory effets of microRNA and TNF-α on osteogenic differentiation.
