Abstract: Porphyromonas gingivalis is a Gram-negative anaerobe that is the main pathogen of periodontitis. Because of its ability to activate the host inflammatory response and to regulate immune responses, it has been a research hotspot to explore the relationship between P.gingivalis and systemic diseases, especially Alzheimer's disease. AD is a common neurodegenerative disease that causes dementia in the elderly with a variety of inflammatory mediators involved in the inflammatory response as the key pathology. This article reviews their possible interrelated mechanisms.

Key words: Porphyromonas gingivalis, Alzheimer’s disease, inflammatory mediator
