Abstract: Attached to the surface of the teeth, oral microorganisms can form the dental plaque biofilm which initiates dental caries and periodontal disease. Key measures including remove plague effectively and maintain oral hygiene can be taken to prevent and control common oral diseases. The pulse type oral irrigator, acting as an important auxiliary tool for cleaning oral cavity, has been not only more and more widely used, but becoming increasingly prominent in its potential benefits. Here, we offer a comprehensive account of the mechanism, effect, clinical application and safety of the oral irrigator.
