Changes of the expression levels of IL-23 and IL-17 in GCF of patients with chronic periodontitis before and after treatment

Abstract: Abstract: Objective To study the changes of the expression levels of IL-17 and IL-23 in GCF (gingival crevicular fluid) of patients with chronic periodontitis before and after treatment, and to explore the role of IL-23 / IL-17 axis in the occurrence and development of chronic periodontitis. Methods 50 patients with chronic periodontitis were selected. to GCF before and after the periodontal treatment was collected, and sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determinate the expression levels of the IL-17 and IL-23 and their relationships. Results The expression levels of IL-17 and IL-23 in GCF decreased significantly after periodontal treatment (P <0.05). The expression of IL-17 and IL-23 in GCF were positively related to the periodontal clinical indexes. Conclusion IL-17and IL-23 play an important role in the occurrence and development of chronic periodontitis.
