Abstract: Marginal bone loss is a common phenomenon after functional loading. Whereas, these are scant literatures as well as treatment guidelines regarding “saucer-like” marginal bone loss amounted to 3 mm after 1-year loading. To make a comprehensive understanding of this situation, this article reviewed recent literatures and consensus reports, demonstrating that under the pre-described situation, patients might sit in a dangerous pathological condition close to peri-implantitis. To achieve stable long-term outcomes, an open flap debridement and regenerative treatment are required.
