Abstract: Objective To investigate the correlation between IL-6、IL-6R and IL-4 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and the susceptibility of chronic periodontitis among Shanghai patients of Han nationality. Methods Through the application of TaqMan probe real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR, 128 health control subjects and 198 patients with chronic periodontitis(CP) above moderate degree were investigated from three single nucleotide polymorphisms sites, namely IL-6 -572G/C，IL-6R 48892A/C and IL-4 -590C/T. Statistical analysis of Chi square test was performed with SPSS17.0 software package. Results In the screening of the 3 target SNPs，there were no statistically significant differences in distributions of the genotypes and alleles between healthy controls and CP patients. Conclusion The result suggests that the SNPs gene locus of IL-6 -572G/C, IL-6R 48892A/C and IL-4 -590C/T may not be significantly associated with the susceptibility of chronic periodontitis among Shanghai patients of Han nationality.
