An oral health survey on 12 years old middle school students in Kinshasa-Capital of Republic Democratic of CongoCongo

Abstract: Abstract: Objective To investigate the oral health conditions and the regularity of oral disease occurrence in middle school students in Kinshasa.Methods 1 121 middle school students aged 12 years old in 5 middle schools in Kinshasa were involved,including 551 males and 570 females.The survey items included caries status,periodontal disease and malocclusion occurrence and the oral health knowledge questionnaire.The method and standard of World Health Organization oral health survey (3rd edition) were adopted and the oral examination was produced.Results The prevalence rates of dental caries of male and female were 64.06%、70.18% with DMFT 0.65、1.04 respectively.Dental calculus index and Gingival examination index of male and female were 76.59%、62.46% and 71.87%、57.72% respectively.There was statistical difference.Occlusion condition examination displayed that the prevalence rates of malocclusion of male and female were respectively 23.96% and 19.30%.There was no significant difference statistically.Questionnaire investigation presented the neglect of the oral health and lack of oral health education.Conclusions The oral health situation of the local middle school students should be improved and be paid more attention.Aid priorities and strategies of our foreign aid medical oral direction should be adjusted.
