Abstract: Pain is "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage". Orthodontic pain may negatively affect patients′ cooperation and has been reportedto be one of the most important factors in discouraging patients from seeking orthodontic care.This article reviews the existing literature regarding orthodontic pain,and seeks reliable answers to the questions that might arise in a clinical setting from the viewpoint of clinicians and patients/parents.
