Abstract: Useful information can be obtained from trace elements in the teeth, such as human nutrition, environmental pollution, exposure to toxic metals and disease information.Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is becoming the main analytical technique for determining the trace elements in human tooth enamel, with the advantages of quasi-simultaneous multi-element detection, excellent detection limits, wide linear detection range, isotopic analyses and ratio information, efficient ionization, simple interpretation of mass spectra, etc. In this paper, research progresses for determination of trace elements and isotope ratios in human tooth enamel by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) are summarized. At the end of this paper, the promising future research directions are proposed.
