Abstract: Currently, larger taper nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments are extensively used to shape root canals because they are able to produce faster preparations with an overall improved mechanical quality .Nevertheless, these large taper preparations will produce excessive enlargement in the ‘danger zone’ area of the mesial root canals of mandibular first molars , resulting in periodontal-endodontic lesions. This article made a brief review on the relationship between the root canal preparation with larger taper nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments and the periodontal-endodontic lesions in the danger zones of the mesial root canals of mandibular first molars.
