Abstract: Epithelialmesenchymal transition (EMT) refers to the biological process in which cells convert from epithelial phenotype to mesenchymal phenotype by a certain procedure.EMT is important for embryonic development, wound healing, and the invasion and metastasis of carcinomas.the molecular mechanisms of EMT in the invasion and metastasis of malignant tumors have been a research focus. The occurrence of EMT involves a number of mechanisms, and is related to hypoxia microenvironment, inflammatory cytokines, extracellular matrix and microRNA,etc. This paper reviews the current progress in the research field of EMT,the role of EMT in invasion and metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma and lichen planus, and molecular mechanisms of EMT.
