Abstract: A growing number of studies suggest a close relationship between periodontitis and the intestinal flora. Oral bacteria swallowed by patients with chronic periodontitis could be transferred to intestinal colonization, and the primary intestinal flora is altered, thereby triggering a series of immune responses in the intestinal mucosa. Intestinal flora imbalance will lead to a series of systemic diseases, of which the representative disease is inflammatory bowel disease(IBD). Based on IBD, this article reviews the possible ways of periodontitis affecting intestinal flora and changes of intestinal flora during the progress of inflammation and after inflammation is controlled.

Key words: periodontitis, oral bacteria, intestinal flora, inflammatory bowel disease
