Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of distalization of the lower dentition using the microimplant on the upper airway dimensions in patients with class Ⅲ malocclusion. Methods 12 patients were selected to distalize the lower dentition with the microimplant. The cephalometric radiographs of the pre and posttreatment upper airway and dental changes were measured and statistically analyzed. Results There were statistically significant reductions in LPW,UPW and especially PAS. Meanwhile, obvious decreasing of L1-MP and slightly increasing of SNA were found. Other changes had no statistically significant differences. Conclusion The treatment of distalizing the lower dentition by using microimplant leads to the narrowness of upper airway, mainly in PAS area.
